13 May 2016, London: On Thursday, 12 May 2016, Instinctif Partners, the business communications consultancy, sponsored and hosted the 2016 UK BioIndustry Association (BIA) Annual Lecture – ‘An evening with Dr Clive Dix’. The BIA is the trade association for innovative enterprises involved in UK bioscience.
In a very open and informal talk, Brenda Reynolds, CEO of Calchan, interviewed Dr Clive Dix who has over 30 years' experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and was awarded the UK BioIndustry Association (BIA) Lifetime Achievement Award at the start of 2016 - an award which recognises the outstanding contribution and achievement an individual has made to the sector.
The evening gave attendees a candid insight into the career and experience of the UK’s most successful life-sciences entrepreneurs and his thoughts and perspective on developments in and the future of the sector.
Passionate about growing and supporting talent within the life-sciences industry, Clive said “We need to maintain the talent we have within the sector, but also attract good people back into industry who have moved on to other areas, such as consultancy. These people can bring vital expertise in management and finance, which, togther with strong scientific talent should be a winning combination.”
Clive has a long track record of starting and leading UK biotech companies to success and currently holds the positions of Executive Chairman of C4X Discovery, Chairman of Touchlight Genetics, Centauri Therapeutics and Calchan. Prior to this he was CEO and co-founder of PowderMed, which was sold to Pfizer in 2006 and CEO and co-founder of Convergence Pharmaceuticals, which was sold to Biogen in 2015.
Melanie Toyne Sewell, Partner, Instinctif Partners’ Life Sciences said:
“Our industry is one where entrepreneurism and innovation go hand in hand. The UK is one of the world’s leading research centres with excellent universities and a strong record of starting up new businesses.
“We need people who can create and keep creating new interesting, innovative companies in our space; growing them up until they are ready to do a transaction or be bought. It was great to get such an open insight from someone like Clive who reflects this spirit wholly, and whose entrepreneurial enthusiasm encourages others in the sector.”
