10 June 2016, London, UK: Instinctif Partners, the business communications consultancy, is pleased to congratulate Karen Bernstein of BioCentury for winning the “Mediscience Commentator of the Year” award at the European Mediscience Awards on 9th June 2016, in recognition of her clear and concise commentary on the Life Sciences Sector.
The “Mediscience Commentator of the Year” award category was sponsored by Instinctif Partners for the 8th year. Other finalists in 2016 were the Team at Labiotech.eu, John Carroll at FierceBiotech, and Andrew Ward from The Financial Times.
The criteria for the award are for an analyst, journalist, columnist, research house, specialist website or team that is dedicated to providing sharp, perceptive and penetrating commentary about the sector. In-depth knowledge of the sector is a given; the Voting Panel looks for excellence in the way that knowledge is communicated to the wider audience. Past winners include Andrew Ward, Pharmaceutical Correspondent at The Financial Times, John Carroll, Editor of FierceBiotech, Andrew Clark, Deputy Business Editor at The Times and the teams at BioCentury and EP Vantage.
Karen is the Co-Founder and Chairman of BioCentury, where she was Editor-in-Chief from 1992 to 2015. She holds a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University and a B.A. in politics and history from Brandeis University, where she served for many years as a member of the Brandeis University Science Advisory Council. She is on the board of trustees of the Keck Graduate Institute of the Applied Life Sciences and is a member of the board of advisors of KGI's School of Pharmacy. In 2005, the annual gathering of biotechnology chief executive officers at The Biotech Meeting in Laguna Niguel, Calif., inducted Karen into their Hall of Fame, citing her lifetime contribution to the biotech community. In 2007, Karen received a Special Recognition award at the American Liver Foundation's Salute to Excellence, honouring individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to biotechnology and medical innovation.
